The Staple of News

The documentary has as a starting point the play The Staple of News, by Ben Jonson (1572-1637), which was played back in 1626. The film contains the first translation of the play into Portuguese, made by the director and teacher Liziane Kugland. It is a humorous critic to a newly created work: the journalism.


One of the founders of the production company Casa de Cinema. Successful writer and director known for hit movies such as The Man Who Copied (2003) and Basic Sanitation (2007), screened in BrasilCine 2009. His mini series Doce de mãe (2014) won an International Emmy Award for best comedy in 2015.

After the screening there will be a talk held by media and communication researcher Paola Sartoretto about the role of journalists in writing/producing news.
